When it comes to memory
cards for digital cameras, SanDisk is definitely one of the leaders in
storage. The latest series in SD memory cards, the SDHC gives the user
even more edge in memory storage. At 8 GB, this SDHC memory card gives you
up to 4000 pictures at high definition quality or up to 8 hours worth of
high resolution video (640 x 480 x 32)!
SDHC memory cards are perfect
for intense camera users who like to take hundreds of pictures at a go,
especially during vacation, but aren't too diligent in transferring their
files to other media. Then again, why should you? Spend time transferring
the files at home, not during vacation time. The SDHC memory card allows
you to do just that.
With a write speed at up to
1.3MBit/s and a read speed of up to 4.3 MBit/s, the SDHC memory card comes
up a little short in transfer speed. In SD terms, this means a transfer
speed rating of class 2. While its 8 GB capacity means that you will
rarely have to free up space on your card, when you do, it will take hours
to completely transfer all 8 GB of information.
The standard SDHC comes in
standard sizes of an SD memory card, 32 x 24 x 2.1 mm, a little more than
the size of a postage stamp. Most cameras using the standard SD memory
card reader will be able to use this card. However, old cameras may not be
able to read SDHC cards even if they have a SD card reader. If your camera
is at least 8 megapixels and SD compatible, there shouldn't be any
compatibility issues with SDHC memory cards for digital cameras. However, if your camera has
less than 6 megapixels, chances are that SDHC won't work for
you.
At prices ranging from US$20 to
US$50, depending on where you are, the SDHC memory card is a small
fraction of your camera cost. Any serious camera user would want to equip
him/her self with a high capacity memory like SDHC for much greater
convenience.
The SanDisk standard SDHC
memory card for digital cameras also comes in memory sizes of 2 GB, 4 GB and 16 GB.
